Family Day 2026 celebrates Vietnam’s cultural diversity at ethnic village
VOV.VN - From shared family meals and community dances to traditional folk games, Family Day 2026 at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism this June is not only celebrating Vietnamese family values but also creating a vibrant space for cultural exchange among ethnic communities nationwide.
Held in celebration of Vietnam Family Day (June 28), the month-long event themed “Happy Families, Prosperous Nation” will take place from June 1 to June 30 at the common house of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups.
More than 100 people representing 16 ethnic communities from 11 localities are expected to take part in cultural exchanges, traditional performances and community activities.
The event space is designed not only to showcase the cultural identities of different regions, but also to serve as a gathering place where generations of families can share and reconnect with traditional values in modern life.
One of the highlights of this year’s programme is a cultural showcase from Gia Lai province featuring a re-enactment of the Sơmă Kơcham festival of the Ba Na ethnic group.
The traditional ritual, which conveys wishes for peace and good fortune, reflects the spiritual life of people in the Central Highlands while also carrying messages of family and community solidarity.
The colours and spirit of the Central Highlands will also be brought to life through folk songs, traditional dances and cultural performances, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the unique cultural life of local ethnic communities.
Another featured programme, “Vietnamese Family Home,” will involve families from Hung Yen province and highlight family traditions preserved through generations.
The activity will also revisit the “Cultural Family” movement, which originated in Hung Yen around half a century ago before spreading nationwide.
This year’s event also includes a wide range of interactive experiences for families and visitors. Guests can join Ba Na people in preparing traditional dishes such as bamboo-tube rice and bitter eggplant soup, take part in folk games, experience handicrafts, try on ethnic costumes or participate in weekend community activities.
Another emotional highlight is the “Family Moments” exhibition area, featuring everyday images that capture affection, sharing and connections among generations in Vietnamese families.
More than just a cultural event series, Family Day 2026 offers an opportunity for people to reconnect with the most familiar and meaningful values of family life while experiencing the diversity and vitality of Vietnam’s ethnic cultures in a shared cultural space.
