Truong Sa islands prepare warm International Children’s Day celebrations

VOV.VN - In the final days of May, the atmosphere across Vietnam’s Truong Sa Special Zone has become livelier than usual as navy officers, soldiers and islanders are busy preparing for International Children’s Day (June 1).

On the islands, the sounds of children rehearsing performances, laughter echoing through residential areas and busy preparations for International Children’s Day on are spreading across the remote outposts at the country’s maritime frontier.

From early morning, naval officers, youth union members, women’s associations and island families have worked together to decorate stages, prepare playgrounds and set up sound and lighting systems, along with gifts for local children. National flags, colourful balloons and playful decorations have gradually transformed the islands into festive spaces in the middle of the sea.

On Truong Sa Island, the central courtyard has been selected as the main venue for celebration activities. Children enthusiastically rehearse musical and dance performances about their homeland, the sea and islands, and love for the nation under the guidance of naval officers and soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Huy Phung, political commissar of Truong Sa Island, said the programme has been carefully prepared to create a meaningful and joyful environment for children while also encouraging island families to remain confident and committed to life and work on the island.

Preparations are also taking place across Sinh Ton, Song Tu Tay and Da Tay islands. In addition to cultural performances, organisers have prepared group games, exchange activities and educational quizzes suitable for different age groups. Gifts, greeting letters and school supplies sent from the mainland have also arrived and are ready to be distributed to children during the June 1 celebrations.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Cuong, political commissar of Sinh Ton Island, shared that caring for children is not only a responsibility but also a heartfelt commitment shared by officers, soldiers and island residents toward the younger generation.

“Through these activities, children can experience joy and also feel the attention and affection of people across the country toward Truong Sa,” he said.

Alongside entertainment activities, this year’s programme also incorporates educational content about the traditions of the Vietnam People’s Navy, love for the country’s seas and islands, and awareness of protecting national sovereignty. Exchanges with naval officers and soldiers have been carefully organised to help children better understand daily life on remote islands.

Amid the vast sea and sky, the songs and laughter of children are bringing warmth to Truong Sa these days. Beyond preparations for a holiday celebration, the activities offer a vivid picture of peaceful life and the care devoted to future generations on the front line of Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty.
