117 films from 51 countries and territories to vie for titles at HANIFF 2024

VOV.VN - As many as 117 films from 51 countries and territories, including the United States, France, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Denmark, Norway, China, and Japan, will compete for titles at the seventh Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) that is due to take place in Hanoi from November 7 to 11, a press conference held on November 5.

The feature film category will see the participation of 10 works from Switzerland, Russia, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Estonia, the Republic of Korea, Iran, India, and Vietnam, said Vi Kien Thanh, head of the Cinematography Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The festival will also showcase 19 short films in competition, including 11 entries from Colombia, China, Iran, Serbia, Cambodia, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Iran, and Greece, as well as 8 from Vietnam spanning across documentary, animated, and narrative genres.

In addition to the competing films, the festival will introduce a variety of other films to both domestic and international audiences.

Approximately 800 delegates, including domestic and international guests, are expected to attend this film festival in Hanoi. The opening and closing ceremonies, along with the award presentation, will take place at the Ho Guom Theater.

Themed Heritage in Motion - Cinema: Soaring – Creativity, the film festival emphasizes the importance of cultural heritage in cinema and the creative processes that propel the film industry forward, said Thanh.

Along with a diverse array of films, he said the festival will also feature workshops, and discussions, celebrating both local and international filmmakers while exploring how heritage influences cinematic expression.

HANIFF is to honour and discover new talents of international and Vietnamese cinema and is a playground for connections, exchange and cooperation, for mutual development and coordination between filmmakers, film distributors and domestic and international film artists.
