Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973, Vietnam-Singapore relations have grown rapidly across a variety of fields, especially after the two nations upgraded their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership in 2013.
In his opening speech, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Huynh Cach Mang, reviewed the major milestones and remarkable achievements of the relationship between HCM City and Singapore, highlighting the fact that friendly ties have been maintained through high-level delegation exchange visits.
Economic cooperation remains a bright spot in the two countries’ relationship as Singapore has held the position of being the leading investor and the second largest trade partner of HCM city for several consecutive years.
The island city-state has injected more than US$10.6 billion in 1,000 projects in the city with Vivocity, One Hub Saigon, and Saigon Centre projects being vivid illustrations of its fruitful cooperation and substantial contributions to HCM City’s urban development.
Regularly implemented cooperative activities in fields such as educational, cultural, art and social exchanges have helped to enhance the friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of HCM City and Singapore.
At the ceremony, Ms Leow Siu Lin, Singapore Consul General to HCM City, said the city’s rapid urbanization has offered opportunities for urban development and management. She expressed a wish to expand cooperation in new realms, including information technology- a field of the city’s priority, hoping that their relations will reach new heights in the time ahead.
