Permanent Secretary for the Singaporean Defence Ministry Chan Yeng Kit made the affirmation during a reception hosted by Vietnam Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh in Hanoi on July 22.

Defence Minister Kit expressed his desire to share experience with Vietnam in such areas as peace keeping, search and rescue work, naval cooperation, military medicine, and English language training. The fruitful bilateral defence ties will bring benefits to both countries and for the sake of peace and stability in the region and the world.
General Thanh in turn emphasized that since the establishment of Vietnam and Singapore diplomatic relations in 1973, they have seen monumental positive developments in various fields, including national defence.
For over the past four decades the two countries have constantly promoted defence ties through military delegation exchange, naval cooperation, and foreign language training, Thanh said.
General Thanh suggested mapping out a long-term cooperation plan to bolster implementation of signed defence cooperation agreement more effectively and identify new areas for enhanced defence cooperation in the future.
