As of the 2020 season, only the club that finishes bottom of the V.League 2 will be relegated, whilst the leading three sides from the National Football Second League will be promoted. As a result, the 2021 season will see a total of 14 clubs competing in the V.League 2.

The VFF believes by increasing the number of participants in the country’s second division that it will help to raise the overall quality of the tournament. After proposing these changes, the VFF subsequently received the agreement of the majority of teams nationwide.

As a result, the V.League 1, the V.League 2, and the National Football Second League will all involve 14 participants from the 2021 season.

Due to the ongoing situation surrounding the novel coronavirus, there is currently no date set for the return of the V.League 2 season.
