The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has tasked the national team with defending the trophy and winning the AFF Cup 2020. In addition, the VFF have expectations that Korean head coach Park Hang-seo and his team will be able to progress to the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup.
To create the most favourable conditions possible for the Vietnamese team to successfully achieve these goals, the VFF has devised a detailed schedule for coach Park Hang-seo and the national team players to follow. In line with the plans, the Vietnamese national football team are expected to meet in early September to participate in a week of training and a friendly match.
Following the conclusion of the camp, the team will meet again at the end of September to play a friendly match, before heading for an away tie to Malaysia on October 13, in line with the approved plans of the AFC in the event that the novel coronavirus is brought under control with international football activities set to be held once again.
After the tie against Malaysia, the national team will have 17 days during November in which to prepare for the remaining two matches of Group G, with games against Indonesia on November 12, followed by a clash with the United Arab Emirates on November 17.
After completing the qualification fixtures, coach Park Hang-seo and his team will then prepare to participate in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020, a competition which is scheduled to run from November 23 to December 31.
