Speaking at the event, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) Bui Van Cuong said trade unions stand by workers and businesses for their well-being.
He urged unions and enterprises to work to create jobs and raise workers’ living standards.
In response to the Workers’ Month, the VGCL chapter in Hung Yen has presented local disadvantaged civil servants 100 gifts worth VND500,000 (US$22.5) each. It also spent VND240 million (US$1,800) on assistance to union members in building houses and organised free health check-ups for 150 workers.
A range of sporting and cultural events are scheduled throughout the month.
The provincial trade union expects to add 3,000 members in May.
