              Tet preparations well underway in Lai Chau

              VOV.VN - Ethnic people in the mountainous Lai Chau province have beaten the recent effects of flooding, stabilised their lives, and are currently busy preparing for the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

              Floods in June and July 2018 hit the ethnic people in Lai Chau Province hard. Thanks to great support from local authorities and philanthropists, they have been able to stabilised their lives and are ready to welcome in the Lunar New Year. After flooding season hit Lai Chau province last year, over 30 deaths and missing people were reported. Additionally, hundreds of houses were flooded and property damage reached an estimated VND500 billion. The lives of local people have returned to normal in recent days. Despite suffering many difficulties, local people have shown solidarity, joining hands to prepare for Lunar New Year (Tet) festival. Preparing la dong (dong leaves) Sang Tung village in Ta Ngao Commune of Sin Ho District disappeared after only one night because of intense flooding. Local people have re-built their lives in the new village. Ethnic people cook Banh Chung (square glutinous rice cake). Villagers have received great support from both local authorities and generous philanthropists. Banh Chung is a traditional cake enjoyed by Vietnamese people during Tet. A man makes traditional home decorations. Members of a family pray for a year of wealth, peace, and happiness. A father and his two daughters bring peach branches to decorate their home. Children are eagerly anticipating the Tet holiday. Preparing hand-made items Children wait for new clothes to wear for Lunar New Year.
