More cases are expected in Vietnam as thousands of Vietnamese citizens are returning from epidemic-hit countries
They were all placed in quarantine as soon as they landed in Vietnam, therefore they could not put the community at risk, said the ministry.

One of the newly detected patients was a 39-year-old man who illegally crossed into Vietnam’s Tay Ninh province from Cambodia on May 2.

He was persuaded by his relatives to show up at the local police station for medical check-ups and quarantine the following day.

The patient was diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease on May 15.

Two of the four new cases returned to Vietnam from Russia on May 13, and the fourth patient flew to Da Nang from the Philippines on May 14.

Since Vietnam Airlines flight VN0062 brought home more than 340 Vietnamese citizens from Russia on May 13, as many as 27 have been confirmed to carry the virus.

The newly detected cases brought to 318 the total cumulative number of coronavirus infections in Vietnam, with 260 cases making a full recovery and being discharged from hospital.

Vietnam has recorded no locally transmitted infections for 30 days in a row, according to the Ministry of Health.
