The Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang stated on the evening of March 17 that they had received a total of 17 samples from the Ninh Thuan Center for Disease Control which had been taken from individuals who had come into close contact with people infected by the COVID-19. In an effort to slow down any potential outbreaks, each case has been put into concentrated quarantine areas in Ninh Thuan General Hospital.
This development led to the Pasteur Institute announcing at 9:30 am on March 18 that one of the samples had tested positive for the virus, taking the total number of infected cases nationwide to 67.
The most recent case involves a 36-year old who resides in Thuan Nam district of Ninh Thuan province. He was on the same flight as the 61st patient after the pair had originally arrived in Malaysia on February 27 before returning the country on March 4 on flight VJ826 of Vietjet Air from Malaysia to Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
At present, the patient is being treated at the Department of Tropical Diseases in Ninh Thuan General Hospital.
