Drug smuggling ring operating cross border thwarted in HCM City

VOV.VN -Police in Ho Chi Minh City have broken up a major drug trafficking ring operating from Cambodia to the southern city on September 11, seizing a total of 35 kg of drugs, two shotguns, and 21 bullets in the process.

In smashing the drugs ring, the police arrested a total of seven suspects, including Nguyen Hoai Phuong, 23, of Long An province, Hoang Cong Thinh, 25, of Quang Tri province, Nguyen Duy Tien, 23, and Le Duc Minh Anh, 26, of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, Ngo The Bao Ngoc, 26, of District 4, Vuong Van Tuan ,43, and Tran Thi Le, 43, of Binh Thanh district.

According to the local police force, the gang were first discovered in late April transporting drugs from Cambodia to sell at bars and clubs around the city, largely in District 4, District 8, and Binh Thanh district. The group also sold drugs to street dealers.

After being under police surveillance for a long time, several of the gang were caught red-handed on August 30 following a raid by police at two apartments in District 7 and Thu Duc district.

One of the raids saw police discover Phong and Minh Anh selling drugs to Tuan and Le, seizing a total of 8.3 kg of a variety of drugs, one shotgun, and a total of 16 bullets.

Upon the arrest of Thinh and Tien police forces were able to confiscate a huge quantity of drugs at their abode.

Thanks to valuable information provided to forces by a private source, the police also noticed that Ngo The Bao Ngoc was preparing to receive a huge drug shipment from Cambodia.

Ngoc was also caught red-handed receiving a suitcase from a stranger at the Moc Bai border gate in Tay Ninh province on September 2.

Once at the scene, the police seized more than 10.5 kg of synthetic drugs, 3.487kg of ketamine, and 20,234 ecstasy pills.

After conducting a search of Ngoc’s house, a huge amount of drugs, a shotgun, and five bullets were also discovered.

The case is now being investigated further.
