Speaking at a ceremony on March 14, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem expressed his delight at the growth of Vietnam – Hungary relations, stressing that the Vietnamese people always remember Hungaria’s support for their struggle for independence.
Official development assistance from the Hungarian government has contributed to Vietnams’ progress in science-technology and health care, while the joint education programmes have been effective, he said.
Liem noted ties between HCM City and Hungary have seen improvements in recent years via stronger cooperation in health capacity training, water management, wastewater treatment, cultural exchange, tourism and trade-investment promotion.
The official said he believes the Consulate General will devise more initiatives to enhance the countries’ friendship.
Hungarian Consul General Baloghdi Tibor said the seven-decade diplomatic relations are growing strongly thanks to high-level visits exchanged between the two countries’ leaders, engagements between their legislative bodies, and people-to-people exchange.
He said Vietnam and Hungary have boosted their ties in legislation and defence-security. They have also enhanced trade and investment collaboration in oil, water management, health services and agriculture.
The diplomat said the Consulate General is proud to help connect HCM City with Hungarian localities.
Currently, HCM City is implementing health capacity training programmes with major Hungarian universities like Semmelweis, Pecs and the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest. The Industrial University of HCM City and Hungarian-based Thermo Wat company signed a memorandum of understanding on turning wastewater into electricity.
The southern city and Hungary signed an agreement to establish their cooperation in 2015. They are working on joint projects in health, classical music, and water supply and drainage management.
