Singapore, Indonesia enhance security cooperation

Singapore and Indonesia have agreed to enhance cooperation on transnational security issues, said the Singaporean Ministry of Defense in a statement on October 10.

During the meeting between Singapore's Minister for Defense Ng Eng Hen and visiting Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto on October 10, the two sides reaffirmed the close and long lasting bilateral defence cooperation.

The ministers discussed ways to enhance bilateral defense cooperation as well as transnational security issues such as terrorism and cyber security.

They agreed to deepen relations between the Singapore Armed Forces and the Indonesian National Defense Forces, and to cooperate further to deal with the threat of terrorism.

The two sides also agree to interact regularly through exercises, visits and professional exchanges among others.

The two nations pledged to support each other in the multilateral forums such as Shangri-La Forum, the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM plus.
