PM suggests reinforced security links with Indonesia

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Indonesian National Police closely cooperate in fighting transnational crimes and terrorism, thus deepening the bilateral strategic partnership.

During his reception for the visiting Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Indonesian National Police, General Syafruddin in Hanoi on September 26, the PM highlighted the growing relations across fields between the two countries, especially after it was upgraded to a Strategic Partnership in June 2013.

The two countries are implementing the Vietnam-Indonesia Action Programme for the 2014-2018 period, he said. 

The Vietnamese leader expressed his joy at the sound cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and the Indonesian National Police in combating transnational crime, drug and human trafficking, hi-tech crimes over years. 


He gave high estimation to the role played by Indonesia in the ASEAN Community and regional security cooperation mechanisms, adding that it contributed to ensuring peace, stability, sustainable development and prosperity in the region and the world. 

He urged Indonesia to continue working closely with Vietnam and other ASEAN member nations to ensure intra-bloc solidarity and assure their common stance and voice and the vital role of the bloc in solving East Sea-related issues. 

Vietnam and Indonesia should work together to accelerate the pace of negotiations on t he delimitation of exclusive economic zones at sea, he said. 

For his part, General Syafruddin said he hopes for closer security links between the two nations, especially in fighting terrorism. 

He congratulated Vietnam on the country’s strong economic growth, expressing his belief that Vietnam will successfully organise the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit next year. 

The guest informed the host about the outcomes of the talks between representatives of the two security agencies , saying that the two sides discussed orientations for cooperation in the coming time. 

Indonesia wants to join Vietnam and other ASEAN member nations in safeguarding navigation security, safety and freedom, and peace in the East Sea in line with international law, he stated.
