MRT Purple Line train service now open

The MRT Purple Line train service officially commenced today with Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakra Sirindhorn presiding over the opening ceremony.

Her Royal Highness graciously officiated at the opening of the Klong Bang Pai - Tao Poon section of the MRT Purple Line train service, launching its first electric trains for commuting Bangkok passengers.

Many lined up at Tao Poon station waiting to embark on the Purple Line train on its first day, especially as the first 5,000 passengers were to receive commemorative coins celebrating His Majesty the King’s 70th anniversary of his accession to the throne.

Revenue from the first day of service will be presented to HRH Princess Maha Chakra Sirindhorn to assist with her charitable works.

Passengers from the MRT Blue Line can now take shuttle buses free of charge between Bang Sue station and Tao Poon station as a temporary arrangement prior to the opening of the Blue Line service, which will provide direct interchange between the two lines.

There are 16 stations along the MRT Purple Line from Klong Bang Pai to Tao Poon. One train trip along the entire route will take 40 minutes with fares at 14 baht to 42 baht for a single journey without connection, and up to 70 baht if connecting to the Blue Line.
