Malaysia, Thailand strengthen border security cooperation
Malaysia and Thailand have agreed to intensify cooperation to address several cross-border security issues in both nations during Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s two-day visit to Thailand.
According to Hamidi, many Malaysian criminals sought hiding in Thailand while many terrorism-linked elements use Thailand as a transit to enter Malaysia or to travel from Malaysia to a third country.
Malaysia will strengthen border inspection by establishing a border inspection agency to replace its current anti-smuggling body, he said.
The cooperation is part of the activities to implement their agreements under the Thailand – Malaysia Joint Border Committee formed in 2010.
