Malaysia, Maldives enhance cooperation
Malaysia and the Maldives have agreed to work closely to share information and best practices in tackling terrorism, transnational crime and extremism.
Speaking at a press conference after talks with the Maldivian President on March 29, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said that the two leaders were unanimous in rejecting violent extremism and called upon all states to bring perpetrators to justice.
The two sides have also set their sights on boosting trade and investment, with the Maldives calling on Malaysian investors to do business in the island country, specifically in construction, health and tourism.
Both sides agreed with the proposal on establishing a Maldivian cultural centre in Kuala Lumpur to increase cultural exchanges between the two countries.
In improving trade and investment cooperation, the Maldives will negotiate with Malaysian authorities on a treaty on double taxation avoidance, according to Abdulla Yameen.
