Yen Tu relic site sees record visitor surge over Tet holiday

VOV.VN - A record 171,000 visitors flocked to the Yen Tu Monuments and Landscape Complex during the recent Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, marking a 2.2-fold increase year on year and helping Quang Ninh province surpass the one-million-visitor mark at the start of the year.

According to the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the province welcomed over 1.1 million visitors from February 14 to 21, up 16% compared to the same period last year. Spiritual sites and scenic attractions recorded steadily rising numbers throughout the holiday, with the Yen Tu Monuments and Landscape Complex standing out as the main draw.

The department reported that although temporary congestion occurred at certain peak hours due to the sudden surge in arrivals, security and order were largely maintained.

To facilitate travel and enhance visitor experience, local authorities rolled out a range of incentive policies, including free admission to the Yen Tu scenic area, complimentary parking for cars and motorbikes, free insurance coverage for all visitors, and the installation of AI-powered automatic recognition systems to improve management efficiency and ensure safety and security.

The 2026 Yen Tu Spring Festival is scheduled to open on February 26 (the 10th day of the first lunar month) at Truc Lam Palace in Yen Tu Ward, with an expected attendance of around 5,000 people. The festival will run through May 16 (the end of the third lunar month).

In 2026, Yen Tu aims to welcome at least one million visitors. The recognition of the Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac complex as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, together with the province’s free admission and parking policies, is anticipated to serve as a strong catalyst for further growth.

Alongside spiritual tourism, Ha Long Bay remained a highlight of Quang Ninh’s early-year tourism, particularly in the international segment.

During the Tet holiday, the bay welcomed 74,428 visitors, up 124% year on year. Of the total, 65,470 were international tourists and 8,958 were domestic travelers, generating more than VND22 billion (approximately US$880,000) in revenue.

Visitors to the Ha Long Bay mainly came from China, the Republic of Korea, India, and Taiwan (China). Popular attractions included Titop Island, Sung Sot Cave, Luon Cave, and Me Cung Cave.

During the nine-day Tet holiday from February 14 to 22, Quang Ninh led the country in international cruise arrivals, receiving six cruise ships from Europe, Hong Kong (China), and other markets. On the first day of Tet alone, two luxury vessels docked at Ha Long International Cruise Port, bringing nearly 2,400 international visitors to the heritage site.
