Yen Tu complex featured among UNESCO heritage sites to explore in 2026

VOV.VN - Vietnam's Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son, Kiep Bac Complex of Monuments and Landscapes has been listed by Booking.com among five lesser-known UNESCO World Heritage destinations worth exploring in 2026.

The travel platform's selection highlights sites offering distinctive cultural and historical experiences away from crowded tourist attractions.

According to Booking.com's Travel Trends 2026 research, 45% of surveyed Vietnamese travelers expressed interest in taking a cultural holiday this year.

Spanning Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, and Hai Duong in northern Vietnam, the Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son, Kiep Bac complex was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2025, becoming Vietnam's ninth World Heritage Site and its first serial site connecting multiple locations.

According to the digital travel platform, the complex is closely associated with King Tran Nhan Tong, who led resistance against Mongol invasions in the 13th century before abdicating the throne to become a Buddhist monk on Yen Tu Mountain, where he founded the Truc Lam Zen school.

Booking.com suggested that visitors follow ancient pilgrimage paths to Dong Pagoda at the mountain's summit, explore Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, home to around 3,000 ancient Buddhist scripture woodblocks, and visit Kiep Bac Temple.

Other destinations in Booking.com's selection include Sukhothai Historical Park in Thailand, Hahoe Village in the Republic of Korea, Luang Prabang in Laos, and Taos Pueblo in New Mexico, the United States.
