Vietnamese turmeric fish tops list of world's 100 best dishes with white fish
VOV.VN - Vietnamese turmeric fish with dill and noodles (Chả cá Lã Vọng) has taken the lead on TasteAtlas’s list of the world's 100 best dishes with white fish.
The local delicacy ranked first overall with a rating of 4.6 stars, reported the international cuisine magazine.
The traditional dish originating from Hanoi consists of grilled fish with turmeric and dill. In order to prepare it, firm white fish such as catfish, cod, or tilapia is usually marinated in shallots, galangal, turmeric, garlic, shrimp paste, fish sauce, and oil, the website writes.
It is then grilled on both sides with dill and spring onions before then being served with vermicelli noodles, roasted peanuts, and a dipping sauce consisting of lime juice, garlic, fish sauce, and sugar, it adds.
TasteAtlas reveals that historically only a secret meeting place has served grilled fish (chả cá), with the outside of the establishment having a statue of Lã Vọng, a famous poet and resistance fighter, which is where the name of the dish originates from.
Rounding off the list of TasteAtlas’ best 100 dishes with white fish in the world are Ceviche, Ceviche mixto of Peru, Kokotxas of Spain, and Corvina al horno of Chile.
