Vietnamese airlines expand international flight networks
VOV.VN -Vietnamese carriers are expanding their international networks, from Europe to Northeast Asia, as demand for tourism, family visits and trade continues to recover strongly following the pandemic.
Vietjet on May 26 announced ticket sales for its Hanoi-Prague route, expanding the airline’s network into the European Union.
The route is scheduled to launch on October 10 using wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft, with an initial frequency of two round-trip flights per week via Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Eco-class fares start from VND5.94 million (US$228) one way, excluding taxes and fees, while Deluxe-class fares are priced from VND7.32 million (US$281) one way.
The route is expected to serve travel demand from the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic while offering additional options for tourists and businesses travelling between Vietnam and Europe.
According to Prague Airport representatives, more than 75,000 passengers were recorded between Prague and Hanoi in 2025.
Notably, Vietjet is not the only Vietnamese carrier expanding internationally. Sun PhuQuoc Airways launched its Phu Quoc-Hong Kong route on May 22 with five flights per week, following earlier routes to Taipei and Seoul.
Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines plans to raise the frequency of its direct Hanoi-Moscow service to four flights per week from July 1, 2026, using Boeing 787 aircraft, in response to recovering travel demand between Vietnam and Russia.
Travel operators said the launch of additional international routes is a positive sign for tourism and trade.
However, they noted that operational efficiency will still depend on stable flight frequencies, ticket pricing policies, links with tour packages and actual market demand. For long-haul routes such as those to Europe, fuel costs, flight duration, transit points and service quality continue to play a major role in passengers’ travel decisions.
