Direct Phu Quoc-Hong Kong air route launched to bolster tourism cooperation
VOV.VN - Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) on May 22 officially launched a direct air route linking Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China.
During the initial phase, the route will operate five flights per week, with plans to increase frequency in the near future to help strengthen tourism cooperation between the two sides.
Ahead of the launch, SPA organized a seminar highlighting cooperation opportunities and market potential in aviation and tourism between the two markets.
La Vinh Nam, Deputy Head of the company’s Business Division, said the establishment of SPA had completed the final piece of Phu Quoc’s tourism and resort ecosystem, helping bring one of Vietnam’s well-known tourist destinations closer to international visitors and vice versa.
Alongside domestic travellers, Northeast Asia, including Hong Kong, is also an important market for Vietnamese airlines in general and SPA in particular.
The launch of the direct route is therefore expected to improve connectivity and promote tourism and cultural cooperation between the two sides.
Justin Liu, SPA’s Representative in Hong Kong, said the new route would help attract more tourists, businesspeople and investors from Hong Kong, Shenzhen and neighbouring cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) to Vietnam for tourism or cooperation and investment opportunities.
According to Liu, travellers and businesses in the GBA are already familiar with Vietnam, but the lack of high-quality direct flights has partly affected cooperation between the sides.
The launch of the Phu Quoc-Hong Kong route will fill that gap and create new opportunities for cooperation in the coming period, he added.
SPA plans to initially operate the route with five flights per week before increasing frequency to seven and potentially 14 flights weekly.
