The office, which will offer South Korean tourists an opportunity to find out more about Vietnam tourism, has been established by Vietnam Tourism Ambassador Lee Chan Kun.
The event was held on the 27th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the RoK and Vietnam, and as part of the Vietnamese Culture and Tourism Festival in the RoK.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Vietnamese Ambassador to South Korea Nguyen Vu Tu, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the RoK, and officials of Seoul local government attended the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, a representative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea said that over the past year, the RoK-Vietnam tourism industry welcomed about 3.9 million visitors. This was a four-fold increase compared to five years ago.
The number of Vietnamese tourists to the RoK is rapidly increasing and is the most within the Southeast Asia region. More South Korean visitors have visited Vietnam over recent years. The office will further promote co-operation of the two countries.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Nguyen Vu Tu said that to increase the number of South Korean visitors to Vietnam, it was necessary to have a tourism ambassador in the country who would help deliver the message about Vietnam’s attractions.
"I expect that in 2019 we will receive over 4.5 million South Korean visitors to Vietnam," Tu said.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien shared that the number of South Korean visitors to Vietnam had increased by 45% in 2018, and by 25% in the first six months of this year.
"This is the fastest growth rate among foreign tourist groups coming to Vietnam," the minister said.
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism appointed Mr. Lee Chan Kun as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador to the RoK in 2017. The tourism ambassador helped in getting the licence for the Vietnam Tourism Promotion Office in February 2019.
