Vietnam ranks second in number of foreign tourists to Laos

VOV.VN - Nearly 837,632 Vietnamese tourists headed to Laos in 2023, the second biggest number of foreign visitors to the neighbouring country, according to figures given by the Laos Tourism Development Department.

A recent report compiled by the department indicates that Laos welcomed over 3.4 million international arrivals last year. Topping the visiting nationalities was Thailand with more than 1.3 million arrivals, followed by the likes of Vietnam, China, and the Republic of Korea.

The statistics revealed that the number of Vietnamese travelers to Laos in 2023 rose by 133% compared to 2022 and vice versa, with the number of Laotian tourists visiting Vietnam going up by 155% on-year.

Vientiane, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang all proved to be among the favourite tourist destinations for Vietnamese tourists during their trip to Laos.

According to the Laos’ Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, the country aims to receive over 2.2 million domestic arrivals and nearly four million foreign arrivals this year, with tourism activities expected to generate around US$1.3 billion in revenue.

Laos recently launched the Visit Laos Year 2024 programme which consists of 79 activities nationwide. It provides an opportunity for the Asian country to introduce its unique culture and traditions to international tourists.
