Vietnam - Laos trade turnover sees spike in January

VOV.VN - Vietnam - Laos trade turnover in January grew strongly, rising by 75.8% to reach US$174.4 million compared to the same period from last year.

Of the figure, Vietnamese exports to Laos reached US$56.8 million, an increase of 104.4% over the same period from 2023.

The main export items include petroleum of all kinds; iron and steel products; transport vehicles and spare parts; other machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts; iron and steel of all kinds; ceramic and porcelain products; plastic products; vegetables and fruits; and paper and paper products.

Elsewhere, Vietnamese imports from Laos reached US$117.6 million, an increase of 64.7% on-year. Some main imported products include rubber, wood and wood products, ores and other minerals, corn, and fertilizers of all kinds.

With strong growth in January, bilateral trade exchange this year is expected to reach and exceed the target growth rate of 10% to 15% set by both nations' leaders at the recent 46th meeting of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee. In 2023, bilateral trade turnover between Laos and Vietnam stood at US$1.6 billion.
