Cambodia received 1.01 million international visitors during the January-March period, down 44.8% year-on-year. China was the country’s largest source market for foreign arrivals, followed by Vietnam and the United States.

Thong Mengdavid, Deputy Director of the China-ASEAN Studies Center at the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, attributed the decline to the regional economic slowdown and ongoing border tensions. He added that instability in the Middle East had driven up fuel prices and disrupted flights, significantly affecting tourism flows.

Meanwhile, Cambodia became Vietnam’s fourth-largest inbound tourism market, with arrivals increasing 41.1% during the same period.

Tourism exchanges between Vietnam and Cambodia have recorded positive growth in recent years. In 2025, Vietnam remained Cambodia’s largest international source market, with around 1.11 million visitors. Despite signs of a regional tourism slowdown, Vietnamese arrivals to Cambodia stayed at a high level thanks to convenient land and air connectivity.

Vietnam and Cambodia currently maintain a joint tourism working group mechanism between their tourism authorities at the departmental level. The mechanism is considered an important platform for strengthening coordination, aligning cooperation strategies and promoting bilateral tourism development.

Both nations also benefit from their common border and mutual visa exemption policy for ordinary passport holders. Extensive transport connections by road, river, sea and air linking major cities have further facilitated cross-border tourism and travel activities.
