Vietnam Airlines opens self check-in services at foreign airports

VOV.VN - National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines have announced that passengers departing from Heathrow airport in the UK will be able to check-in via newly installed check-in kiosks at the airport.

The airline has already installed a similar service at several foreign airports such as Narita in Tokyo, Kansai in Fukuoka, Incheon in the Republic of Korea, and Frankfurt in Germany. This is in addition to domestic airports with the service being used at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi, Da Nang airport, and Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City.

Passengers will be able to use the check-in service between24 hours and 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. The new check-in kiosk system is expected to save time for passengers and reduce long waits at the airport. Accordingly, passengers will have the ability to select their seat and print their boarding pass at the airport.

For passengers without luggage, they can use the boarding pass printed from the check-in kiosk to make their way through security and to the gate.

Heathrow is to be the ninth airport where Vietnam Airlines has put the check-in kiosk service into operation. In the future, the service at foreign airports will be expanded such as in Haneda in Tokyo, Nagoya in Japan, Busan in the Republic of Korea, Guangzhou and Hong Kong in China, and Singapore.

During 2018, 40 per cent of Vietnam Airlines’ passengers departing from Noi Bai, Da Nang, and Tan Son Nhat airports used online check-in services through the company’s website and mobile application or via kiosks installed at the airport. The figure rose to 50 per cent during peak times such as the Lunar New Year which greatly contributed to reducing congestion at airports.

A representative from the national flag carrier said the implementation of online check-in services is part of a wider roadmap to a digital service.

To keep up with trends with the world’s aviation industry and to meet passengers’ aspirations, Vietnam Airlines has promoted the use of Industry 4.0 technologies to provide passengers with the best experience.

The move is part of the firm’s objective to turn into a fully digital airline in the future.
