Vietnam Airlines officially launches Ho Chi Minh-Perth air route
VOV.VN - National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines opened a direct flight service between Ho Chi Minh City and the Australian city of Perth on the early morning of December 8.
With a frequency of three flights per week, the new air route is expected to promote trade, tourism, and travel between people of the two countries.
Upon addressing the launching ceremony, Rebecca Ball, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner of Australia, stated that the event is viewed as an important milestone as it takes place amid the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary since establishing diplomatic ties.
Furthermore, the new air service has contributed to opening the door at Australia's western gateway to Vietnam whilst further facilitating travel between the two countries’ people.
Flights on the new air route are scheduled to depart on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday from Ho Chi Minh City; and on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday from Perth. All the flights are to be operated by Vietnam Airlines’ modern and wide-body aircraft.
Nguyen Huu Tung, chief representative of Vietnam Airlines in Australia, revealed that although the population of Western Australia only accounts for roughly 10% of Australia's population, the GDP of Western Australia makes up 17.5% of the entire country.
This means that Western Australia's per capita income is the highest in Australia, with the consumption and travel habits of people there being huge, he assessed.
The opening of a direct flight from Perth to the country will introduce a new destination to Australian people, he added, noting that the state of Western Australia itself boasts many beautiful cities situated along the coast, with this spot anticipated to become an attractive tourist destination for Vietnamese people.
