Two luxury cruise ships bring over 3,100 international visitors to Quang Ninh
VOV.VN - Ha Long International Cruise Port in northern Quang Ninh province received two luxury cruise ships, Westerdam (Netherlands) and Star Voyager (Bahamas) on November 11, bringing more than 3,100 passengers and crew members to the local heritage sites.
Upon arrival, passengers from Westerdam toured Ha Long Bay, Yen Tu and Ha Long city, and traveled to Hanoi and Vinh Bao district in Hai Phong city to explore cultural and historical sites of the northern delta region.
Upon arrival, Westerdam passengers visited attractions including Ha Long Bay, Yen Tu and a Ha Long city tour, with groups also traveling on to Hanoi and Vinh Bao (Hai Phong) to explore northern delta cultural and historical sites.
Both Westerdam and Star Voyager are regular callers at Ha Long International Passenger Port. Star Voyager made its fourth call in 2025, while Westerdam marked its first visit of the year after two calls in 2024.
Through October 2025 the port recorded 44 international cruise calls and handled 56,647 passengers, a 9% increase year-on-year, with most visitors coming from Europe, the United States and China-signs of a strong rebound in the luxury cruise segment. Port officials said the peak cruise season runs from October through April.
With modern infrastructure and a strategic location, Ha Long International Passenger Port is becoming a preferred port of call for leading global cruise lines.
The port expects 10 international ship calls in November 2025 and projects a total of 23 calls carrying about 32,000 passengers for the month, which would raise the year’s international cruise passenger tally close to 90,000-a record that would underscore Quang Ninh’s central role in Vietnam’s cruise tourism strategy.
Since opening in 2018, the port has handled 209 luxury cruise calls and served nearly 280,000 international passengers, contributing to Vietnam’s standing on the global cruise map.
Port director Pham Van Hiep said the recent visits demonstrate a clear recovery in inbound cruise tourism and pledged continued cooperation with cruise lines and travel partners to expand itineraries, diversify products and offer authentic Vietnamese experiences to visitors.
The port routinely inspects berths and firefighting equipment, improves terminal landscaping and arranges transport services such as double-decker buses and electric shuttles to facilitate visitor access.
It also assists cruise operators in coordinating boat transfers for Ha Long Bay tours with the Ha Long Bay Management Board to ensure safety and convenience for passengers.
