Trans-Vietnam railway listed among world's most incredible train journeys

VOV.VN - Rail Europe, the largest distributor of European rail products in North America, has revealed its list of the Top 9 incredible train journeys for 2025, with the Reunification Express, or Vietnam’s north-south railway, come third.

Spanning over 1,700 kilometres, the so-called Reunification Express is an adventurous way to experience Vietnam, with the tracks linking Hanoi in the north to Ho Chi Minh City in the south, the website wrote.

The site also stressed that the rail journey is as much about the experience as the destination. Indeed, it enables tourists to enjoy gliding past misty mountains, peaceful rice paddies, and charming coastal towns, with ever-changing views outside of the window.

Onboard, the slow, chugging pace will allow visitors to feast on Vietnamese snacks, chat with fellow travelers, and soak in the buzz of local station stops, it added.

Topping the list is the Glacier Express in Switzerland. Dubbed the "slowest express train in the world", the narrow-gauge Glacier Express links St Moritz and Zermatt, offering a front-row seat to Switzerland's alpine landscape through a spectacular eight-hour journey.

Other train journeys on the list are the Orient Express, Paris to Istanbul; Derry/Londonderry to Coleraine, Northern Ireland; the Ella to Kandy Train, Sri Lanka; Rovos Rail, South Africa; The Rocky Mountaineer, Canada; The TranzAlpine, New Zealand; and Ffestiniog Railway, Wales.
