Quang Ninh intensifies cruise tourism promotion in China
A delegation of the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held talks with representatives of cruise operator Adora on April 13 to strengthen cooperation and boost cruise tourism promotion in China.
At the meeting, Nguyen Viet Dung, director of the department, highlighted the growing partnership, noting that Adora has brought thousands of international visitors to Ha Long in recent years. He said the province offers not only the UNESCO-listed Ha Long Bay but also strong port infrastructure, service capacity and security standards.
Ha Long International Cruise Port, he said, has successfully handled two mega cruise ships carrying more than 6,000 passengers simultaneously while maintaining smooth and safe operations.
Beyond inbound tourism, Quang Ninh aims to position Ha Long as a regional transit hub for Vietnamese outbound cruise travel. The province is seeking stronger links with major Chinese markets such as Shanghai and Guangdong.
For his part, Adora CEO Chen Ranfeng said the company sees strong potential in Quang Ninh and called for continued improvements in port services and transport connectivity, as well as more distinctive tourism products to enhance visitor experiences.
The Adora representative also revealed plans to deploy China’s largest cruise ship to Ha Long on August 19, 2026, carrying more than 5,000 passengers. The event is expected to mark an early boost to the province’s cruise season, which typically runs from October to April.
The company is also considering establishing a homeport in Vietnam to attract outbound passengers, building on Quang Ninh’s existing links with destinations such as Beihai, Hainan and Guangzhou.
Vietnam has recently emerged as a growing source market for Shanghai-bound tourists, prompting Adora to further explore this segment.
Quang Ninh expects to receive more than 90 international cruise ship calls in 2026, with commitments from Adora reinforcing the province’s growing profile as a key destination on the global cruise tourism map.
