Phu Quoc welcomes 220 Russian tourists as direct air route resumes

VOV.VN - Phu Quoc island in southern Kien Giang province welcomed the first direct flight from Russia on October 19, marking the resumption of air service between Vladivostok and the island after a long suspension.

Flight VJ3522 operated by Vietjet landed at Phu Quoc International Airport at 3:40 p.m with 220 Russian passengers traveling on a charter tour package that includes flights, accommodation, sightseeing, and local services organized by Anex Vietnam.

Anex Vietnam estimated that about 372,000 Russian tourists will visit Vietnam during the 2025–2026 winter season, nearly twice as many as the previous year. Phu Quoc alone expects to welcome around 60,000 visitors, occupying 1,200-1,500 hotel rooms daily.

Charter flights operated by Azur Air and Vietjet Air will depart from 14 cities across Russia and other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, with a combined frequency of 75–80 flights per month, bringing more than 10,000 international visitors to Phu Quoc monthly. Each traveler typically stays about 10 nights at two- to five-star hotels.

Tran Minh Khoa, Chairman of the Phu Quoc Special Zone People's, said the resumption of direct flights from Russia underscores the island’s growing appeal as an international destination.

The winter charter flight program is part of efforts by airlines and tourism businesses to stimulate inbound tourism and promote Phu Quoc as a premium resort destination while supporting local socio-economic growth.
