Phu Quoc improves tourism to well serve APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in 2027

In preparation for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in 2027, Phu Quoc island city in the southern province of Kien Giang is actively raising public awareness and encouraging community involvement in building a green, clean, beautiful, and civilised city so as to shape the image of “Every Phu Quoc resident serves as a tourism ambassador.”

Hosting this important event is expected to offer a chance for the city to build a long-term development foundation in terms of infrastructure, management mindset, investment attraction, and urban planning.

It will also present a valuable opportunity to promote Vietnam's image as an integrated, innovative, friendly, and dynamic nation to the world, with Phu Quoc as a notable representative.

Accordingly, Phu Quoc is making efforts to transform itself into a high-quality service and eco-tourism centre, a leading destination for marine and island tourism at both national and international levels, connected to major economic hubs in the region and around the world.

So far this year, Phu Quoc has welcomed about 4.4 million tourist arrivals, including 881,990 foreigners. Total tourism revenue is estimated at VND21.6 trillion (US$828 million), up 92.6% compared to the same period last year. Notably, the number of Chinese tourists has increased sharply, with over 140,000 arrivals. It is forecast to continue to rise as beautiful images of the island are widely shared across social media platforms in the world’s most populous country.

Secretary of the Phu Quoc Party Committee Le Quoc Anh stated that in recent years, the island city has gradually affirmed its position as one of the most dynamic tourism destinations in the country. The number of visitors to the island increased from only around 586,000 in 2014 to nearly 6 million last year, including nearly 1 million foreigners.

This remarkable growth not only proves the island’s strong appeal but also reflects the locality’s sound development strategy and the significant contributions of investors and the business community.

Phu Quoc ranks among the top 10 leading tourist islands in Asia. As the largest island in Vietnam, it possesses unique characteristics that set it apart from other marine and island tourism destinations. The "Pearl Island" boasts stunning natural beauty, with expansive coral reefs resting beneath the sea and a number of beautiful, poetic beaches such as Sao, Truong, and Khem, known for their fine white sand and crystal-clear waters.

Phu Quoc offers a diverse range of accommodations, from luxurious 4- to 5-star hotels and resorts to affordable guesthouses and bungalows, catering to all types of travelers. The island also features many modern entertainment complexes, providing a wide variety of experiences, from thrilling adventure games and water parks to unique themed attractions.

Phu Quoc Safari is the largest semi-wildlife conservation park in Vietnam, home to many rare and endangered animal species. Meanwhile, the Hon Thom cable car system is the world’s longest three-wire sea-crossing cable car, offering visitors an unforgettable experience with panoramic views of the island’s pristine and majestic natural landscape from above. The combination of natural beauty and modern, appealing resort and entertainment activities has made the Pearl Island a captivating destination for tourists.
