Tokyo and Osaka topped the list, which compared summer flight bookings for 2024 and 2025 to find the places experiencing the most growth in terms of traveler numbers, the report noted.

The ranking highlights the continued interest in Tokyo, which ranked second on last year’s list.

Paris came in at third on the list, reflecting a drop in travelers during the summer of 2024 caused by the Summer Olympic Games. The fourth position went to Shanghai of China.

Beijing, Seoul, and Singapore round off the Top 10 list alongside the Spanish cities of Palma de Mallorca and Madrid, followed by Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro. Two lesser-known spots in Asia, including Vietnam’s Nha Trang and Japan’s Fukuoka, came in at 11th and 13th, respectively.

The report shows that interest in visiting Asian cities is mainly driven by Asian, European, and American travelers, Mastercard Economics Institute reported.

Asia also tops the summer trip list for Middle Eastern travelers who booked many tours to Thailand, not Japan.
