Narathiwat Facilitates Travel to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj Pilgrimage

Narathiwat province is joining hands with the Department of Provincial Administration and Thai Airways International in arranging special charter flights for Muslim Thais in the southern border provinces and nearby areas to travel to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj observance.

Ceremonies will be held at Narathiwat airport between 4 and 8 July 2019 to bless and see off Haj pilgrims. A total of nine charter flights will be arranged at Narathiwat airport during the five-day period, with a total of 2,601 Haj pilgrims, mainly from Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Songkhla, and Satun.

The Thai government has been supporting the Hajj pilgrimage, so that Hajj pilgrims will carry out their obligation smoothly and without any problems. Before their departure for Saudi Arabia, Hajj pilgrims will be provided with helpful knowledge, such as first aid and the prevention of various diseases.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that, as member in the Committee on the Promotion of Hajj Affairs of Thailand, the ministry has been coordinating with relevant authorities from both the Thai and Saudi sides to facilitate visa applications of Thai pilgrims.

The Royal Thai Consulate in Jeddah has also been tasked to liaise with local authorities to facilitate Thai pilgrims taking part in the annual Hajj in 2019 (A.H. 1440). This year, there are a total of 8,462 Thai pilgrims traveling to perform Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

On 27 June 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over a contribution of 600,000 baht to a representative of the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand to support the work of the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, in his capacity as the Amirul Hajj of Thailand for the year 2019 (A.H. 1440).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been contributing to the Hajj related activities since 2009. The representative of the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand expressed appreciation for the continued support rendered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including assistance and facilitation provided to Thai pilgrims traveling to perform Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
