Middle East disruptions affect more than 3,000 passengers on Vietnam flights
VOV.VN - Conflict in the Middle East has kept parts of the region’s airspace under restrictions, forcing several airlines to adjust flight schedules. In just a few days in mid-March, more than 3,000 passengers on flights between the Middle East and Vietnam were affected.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), during the period from March 12-13, Qatar Airways cancelled 13 flights, including nine passenger flights and four cargo flights, affecting nearly 2,000 passengers.
During the same period, Emirates cancelled the flight pair EK364/EK365 on the Dubai-Ho Chi Minh City route and the return leg, affecting nearly 1,300 passengers. Other flights on Vietnam routes continued to operate as scheduled.
For Etihad Airways, the airline resumed operating passenger flights EY430/EY433 between Abu Dhabi and Hanoi from March 11-13, carrying nearly 1,000 passengers, while cargo flights continued to operate as planned.
The CAAV said that as of March 11, airspace in the Middle East had not yet returned to normal operations. Several flight information regions (FIRs) in the area continue to apply restrictions or partial closures, disrupting international flights transiting the region and forcing airlines to adjust routes.
Meanwhile, the supply of aviation fuel remains tight and has shown no clear sign of improvement. Brent crude is currently around US$88 per barrel, while Jet A1 fuel closed at US$142.99 per barrel on March 10. The average Jet A1 price for March 2026 stands at US$167.294 per barrel, the level used in pricing calculations.
In this situation, domestic aviation fuel suppliers are working with customers and partners to work out response plans to ensure fuel supply for flight operations.
At present, three Middle Eastern airlines operate regular services to Vietnam, including Qatar Airways, Emirates and Etihad Airways. They connect Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, with an average frequency of about 12 flights per day.
These hubs are key transit points in the international networks of Middle Eastern airlines, particularly for routes linking Vietnam with Europe, North America and Africa.
According to the CAAV, before the conflict the three Middle Eastern airlines operated more than 7,000 flights to and from Vietnam in 2025, carrying nearly 1.4 million passengers and over 151,000 tonnes of cargo, helping maintain international air connectivity and supporting trade links between Vietnam and other regions of the world.
