Measures sought to bring more Indian tourists to Lam Dong

A conference was held in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on August 29 to help local tourism businesses learn more about Halal tourism industry standards and connect with Indian tour operators.

The event was organised by the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Lam Dong Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Centre, and the Lam Dong-Da Lat Tourism Association.

At the event, participants were introduced to Lam Dong’s history, culture, people and its typical tourism products. Local tourism businesses and Indian firms also discussed measures to expand tours to attract more Indian tourists to Lam Dong in general and its resort city of Da Lat in particular.

Pham S, vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee, said that to exploit the Indian market with its unique cultural, religious and lifestyle, it requires tailored services and standards, he said, urging local agencies to cooperate with tourism businesses in studying Halal standards for tourists, and implement diverse activities to stimulate local tourism.

He also asked them to study and develop new tourism products, and exploit more tours to India.

Mahesh Chand Giri, a representative of the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, said Vietnam and India are important partners of each other. Bilateral trade has grown impressively in recent years. One of the potential for the two countries to strengthen their foreign relations is cultural and people-to-people exchange.

He said the tourism industry plays an important role in exchanging values between the two sides. The Consulate General of India will actively participate in promoting the development of Indian tourism in Vietnam as it has done for the tourism markets of other countries.

At the conference, six businesses from both sides agreed to sign cooperation agreements to increase the effectiveness of tourism promotion activities between Lam Dong and India.
