Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang lead search trends among Thai travellers
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City and the central city of Da Nang are leading search trends among Thai travellers during the early May holiday period.
Data from Agoda show that Ho Chi Minh City recorded the highest growth in searches from Thailand, up 134%, followed by Da Nang with a 58% increase. Other destinations such as Hong Kong, China, saw more modest growth.
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), while domestic travel demand during the May 1-4 holiday is expected to decline due to rising living and energy costs, outbound travel plans among Thai travellers remain largely unchanged. This contributes to increased searches for international destinations, with Vietnam emerging as a leading choice.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said domestic tourism is forecast to drop as people tighten spending, particularly following the Songkran holiday last month, along with the impact of hot weather and storms in some areas.
Domestic travel during the period is expected to generate about 10.1 billion baht (over US$307 million) in revenue, with 2.83 million visits and hotel occupancy at around 64%. Popular domestic destinations include Kanchanaburi, Chon Buri, Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima and Chachoengsao.
A study by the Tourism Council of Thailand found that only about 16-28% of people plan to travel during the holiday, mostly for short trips to their hometowns or nearby areas. Around 12-20% plan day trips, while 2-6% plan overnight stays and only 2% plan inter-regional travel.
