HCM City tourism activates emergency response amid Middle East tensions

VOV.VN - Travel enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City have activated emergency response protocols to ensure the safety and rights of Vietnamese travelers amid ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East.

Immediately after receiving official notices from airlines regarding adjustments to flight operations and airspace restrictions, travel companies initiated comprehensive response measures, including 24/7 coordination systems and close collaboration with international aviation partners.

Tran Doan The Duy, general director of Vietravel Tourism Joint Stock Company, said the company immediately reassessed all impacted groups and rolled out plans to secure suitable accommodation and living conditions for travelers while awaiting further updates from airlines on flight adjustments over the Middle East. He emphasised that Vietravel is committed to transparency and close customer support, and will only proceed with itineraries once all safety conditions are fully guaranteed.

Currently, Vietravel is supporting three tour groups in Dubai (51 travelers) and one group in Egypt (24 travelers). Due to airspace limitations and flight schedule adjustments, these groups are temporarily staying at designated hotels under safety arrangements while awaiting further updates from airlines.

The company has arranged standard accommodations, ensuring full meals and essential services are provided. Regular communication is being maintained between tour guides, operational teams and customers to ensure timely and continuous updates.

According to travel companies, the Middle East is a strategic market for Vietnamese tourism, serving both as a destination and a key transit hub connecting Europe, Africa and South Asia. While current geopolitical tensions may cause short-term disruptions in aviation and increase operational costs, industry representatives view these impacts as temporary.

Travel companies are working closely with domestic and international partners to minimise cancellation fees, maintain ticket value flexibility and diversify transit routes to reduce dependency on single hubs such as Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi.

For tours scheduled in March 2026 involving Emirates and Qatar Airways, companies have contacted customers directly to advise on route adjustments or alternative travel plans. Travelers who choose to postpone their trips are offered options to retain the full value of payments under current policies.

Industry experts emphasise the importance of coordinated efforts between businesses and state management agencies to ensure accurate information updates and flexible operational responses.

Despite current challenges, tourism enterprises maintain a long-term commitment to developing the Middle East market, citing strong recent growth in destinations such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The emergency response was activated amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following recent military exchanges involving the United States, Israel and Iran. Reports indicate airstrikes targeting facilities linked to Iran’s nuclear programme, followed by retaliatory missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launches toward U.S. military installations in the region.

The developments have heightened security concerns across the Middle East, prompting multiple international airlines to reroute or suspend flights passing through affected airspace as a precautionary measure.
