Hanoi tourism surges in Q1 2026 with nearly 2.4 million foreign visitors
VOV.VN - Tourism in Hanoi saw strong growth in the first quarter of 2026, with international arrivals reaching nearly 2.4 million, up 28.7% year on year, driving total visitor numbers to over 8.8 million, up 20.5%.
Domestic visitors totaled 6.42 million, up 17.7%, while tourism revenue was estimated at nearly VND37 trillion, up 23.1%.
In March alone, the capital received more than 3 million visitors, reflecting a year-on-year rise of nearly 16%.
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, accommodation services remained stable, with average room occupancy hitting around 62.6% in the first quarter, slightly higher than the same period last year.
The city currently has 3,761 accommodation establishments with more than 71,200 rooms, including 28 five-star hotels and serviced apartments, 16 four-star properties, and 8 three-star hotels, largely meeting the growing demand of both domestic and international travelers.
This growth momentum has been driven by a series of tourism promotion programmes launched early in the year, such as “Hanoi Tourism Welcomes 2026 – Get on Hanoi 2026,” “Lunar New Year of the Mong Ethnic Group,” and “Happy Tet 2026.” At the same time, the city has focused on diversifying tourism products, particularly experiential offerings linked to cultural heritage, traditional craft villages, and rural areas.
New tourism models have been introduced and further developed, including agricultural and craft village tours in Bat Trang, community-based tourism associated with Muong ethnic culture in My Duc, heritage exploration routes in Ha Mo, and bamboo and rattan craft village experiences in suburban areas.
Dang Huong Giang, director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, said the local tourism sector would continue implementing comprehensive measures to sustain growth and improve destination quality. Key priorities include developing the tourism strategy for 2026–2030, promoting rural and agricultural tourism in line with new rural development, and enhancing visitor experiences through product innovation.
The city also plans to finalise proposals for recogniding key tourism zones such as Ba Vi, the Huong Son complex, and the Hoan Kiem Lake and Old Quarter area, creating more high-profile destinations.
In addition, Hanoi is accelerating digital transformation in tourism by developing digital culinary maps, smart tourism ecosystems, and integrated data platforms to enhance service quality and visitor experience.
Alongside strengthened international promotion, Hanoi aims to build its image as a “safe – friendly – attractive” destination, reinforcing its position as one of the leading tourism hubs in the country and the region.
In 2026, the capital is expected to welcome more than 35.8 million visitors, including around 8.5 million international arrivals, maintaining its strong growth trajectory.
