Forum to develop unified tourism strategy for Greater Mekong Sub-region

VOV.VN - The Mekong Tourism Forum (MTF) 2025 will take place from June 25 to 27 in Laos’ Luang Prabang, a UNESCO - recognised World Heritage Site, aiming to seek a unified tourism strategy for the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS).

The event, themed “United Journey - Stronger Together”, will be jointly organised by the Laos Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and the Mekong Tourism Coordination Office (MTCO).

The MTF is a crucial programme as part of the tourism cooperation mechanism among GMS countries, attracting the participation of tourism representatives from Cambodia; China, specifically Yunnan province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; Laos; Myanmar; Thailand; and Vietnam.

This year, the forum will focus on discussing sustainable tourism development solutions, enhancing regional cooperation, and promoting community-based and responsible tourism. It will stress the importance of cross-border, multi-sectoral, and community collaboration models which can shape a more inclusive and sustainable future for the GMS.

According to Suvimol Thanasarakij, executive director of the MTCO, MTF 2025 will offer an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and create sustainable, interconnected tourism development models.

Meanwhile, Phonemaly Inthaphome, a representative of the Laos Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, highlighted that the forum reflects the region’s strong commitment to building a balanced, responsible tourism sector that serves to benefit all communities.

MTF 2025 is therefore expected to enhance cross-border tourism connectivity, boost the GMS’ competitiveness on the global tourism map, and promote sustainable socio-economic development for all participating countries.
