Five oldest Buddhist temples in HCM City

VOV.VN - To Dinh Giac Lam, Ba Thien Hau and Giac Vien pagodas are over 200 years old, which are closely associated with the formation and development of Ho Chi Minh City.

Giac Lam Pagoda on Lac Long Quan Str, Tan Binh Dist was built in 1744. It is one of the oldest pagodas in Ho Chi Minh City.

The pagoda consists of three main buildings: the main ceremonial hall, the dharma preaching hall and the meal hall.


Giac Vien Pagoda on Lac Long Quan Str, Tan Binh Dist was constructed in 1789. It underwent major restorations in 1899 and 1910.

It is said that Emperor Gia Long of the Nguyen Dynasty used to worship at Giac Vien, known as the centre of Buddhism for six southern provinces in the 19th century. 

Ba Thien Hau Pagoda on Nguyen Trai Str, Dist 5 is dedicated to Thien Hau, the Lady of the Sea, who is also known as Mazu.

The festival to worship Thien Hau on the 23rd day of the third lunar month is one of the most popular annual festivities of the ethnic Chinese group in Vietnam.

Phung Son Pagoda on Feb.3rd Str, Dist 11 was established in the early 19th century.


Sung Duc Pagoda on Truong Tho Str, Thu Duc Dist was built in 1806.
