Da Nang, Daegu step up tourism cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Da Nang city and the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Daegu city have launched reciprocal tourism promotion spaces in each city, marking a new step in strengthening destination marketing, expanding international cooperation and advancing sustainable tourism development.
The initiative not only implements the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two sides, but also reflects a shift in partnership thinking, from framework-based cooperation to collaboration built on tangible, on-the-ground presence.
The establishment of reciprocal tourism showcase points aims to enhance information exchange, innovate promotional approaches and maximise the effectiveness of existing international partnerships. These bilateral spaces are part of a wider promotional ecosystem that helps destinations maintain a stable and continuous market presence.
The Daegu tourism display area, located at the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre, provides destination information and publications, and highlights key products such as medical tourism, Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) services and international event series. Meanwhile, the Da Nang tourism showcase at the Daegu Tourism Information Centre promotes the image of a dynamic coastal destination, featuring products tailored to the Korean market, including resort tourism, golf, MICE offerings, as well as distinctive cultural and culinary experiences.
This reciprocal destination model establishes a steady promotional channel, enhancing market visibility and facilitating two-way visitor exchanges. Beyond marketing to travellers, the initiative also serves as a regular platform connecting management agencies and businesses, helping deepen cooperation in line with the city’s international tourism development strategy in the new phase.
With 35 international cooperation agreements in place, Da Nang is gradually shifting its focus from expanding its network to improving the quality and effectiveness of partnerships. The RoK remains one of its most dynamic partners, with cooperation spanning localities such as Changwon, Gangwon and Gyeongsan, creating a multidimensional corridor of collaboration from tourism promotion to cultural exchange and innovation.
Cooperation with Daegu is viewed as a practical model, where commitments have been swiftly translated into concrete actions. Following the working visit of Acting Daegu Mayor Kim Jeong-gi to Da Nang in January 2026, the establishment of reciprocal tourism promotion spaces stands as evidence of a flexible, direct and sustainable cooperation mechanism.
According to Nguyen Thi Hong Tham, director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre, the tourism introduction spaces go beyond promotion and open up further room for deeper collaboration between the two cities. In the coming period, priorities will include increasing delegation exchanges, expanding business connectivity, jointly organising thematic promotion programmes and developing products tailored to specific market segments.
Under the plan, Da Nang will participate in promotional and networking activities in Daegu this July, further strengthening its presence in RoK, one of the city’s key international markets.
As Korean visitors continue to play a leading role in Da Nang’s inbound market, expanding partnerships with dynamic cities such as Daegu reflects the city’s strategy to diversify source markets and enhance brand reach.
Tham noted that the reciprocal tourism model would serve as a foundation for deeper connectivity activities in the time ahead.
