The agreement was reached during talks in Da Nang on January 27 between Major General Nguyen Huu Hop, Director of the Da Nang City Police, and Lieutenant General Kim Byoung-woo, Commissioner General of Daegu Police from the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency (Republic of Korea).

Briefing the RoK delegation on local socio-economic development, Hop noted that following the recent boundary merger, Da Nang is among the six largest governed cities in Vietnam. The city has been experiencing strong growth, particularly in tourism, trade, services, high-tech industries and logistics. In 2025, its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) grew by 9.18%, ranking among the fastest-growing localities nationwide.

He revealed that nearly 27,000 Korean citizens are currently residing in Da Nang, and the city welcomed more than 2.1 million visitors from the RoK last year. The RoK now ranks fourth among foreign investors in Da Nang with 345 projects and total registered capital of over US$1.3 billion.

He emphasised that Da Nang Police always create a safe and favourable environment for Korean citizens and businesses, and maintain close coordination in handling cases involving citizens of both countries. In 2025, Da Nang Police coordinated with relevant units to arrest and hand over three Korean fugitives wanted under international warrants in accordance with law.

Since 2005, Da Nang Police and Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency have conducted 29 exchange visits to share professional experience, he added.

For his part, Lieutenant General Kim Byoung-woo said about 11,000 Vietnamese citizens are currently living in Daegu, accounting for more than 23% of the city’s foreign residents.

He highly valued the outcomes of cooperation over the past two decades and proposed further enhancing information sharing, coordination in citizen protection, timely handling of emerging cases, and joint efforts against high-tech fraud, drug trafficking and organised crime.

The two sides agreed to maintain regular exchanges, strengthen professional information sharing and promote practical cooperation, contributing to public security and to further deepening the friendship and partnership between Da Nang and Daegu.

Da Nang steps up co-operation with RoK's Daegu city
