VOV.VN - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment launched the Vietnam National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) in Hanoi on Dec. 23 with the aim of meeting the country’s commitments to mitigating plastic waste pollution and moving forward with building a circular economy.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment held a conference in the central province of Phu Yen on December 14 to review one year of implementing a movement against plastic waste.

It has been more than a year since the fight against plastic waste was launched on a national scale and despite claims of success by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, single-use plastic bags are still commonly used at markets and supermarkets in Hanoi.

Nguyen Thanh Tai, former Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and four accomplices involved in the case “violating regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing losses and wastefulness” have filed an appeal against the judgments which were announced at the first instance trial.

Total food losses in Vietnam are estimated at 8.8 million tons or US$3.9 billion in 2018, equivalent to 2% of Vietnam’s GDP or 12% of the country's agriculture value.
