Competent authorities have handled violations relating to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) with fines amounting to hundreds of billions of Vietnamese dong.

The Prime Minister on June 24 issued a directive on inter-sectoral coordination between ministries, sectors and the People’s Committees of 28 coastal localities in exchanging and handling information so as to prevent and put an end to illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in foreign waters.

The southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has ordered its Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to get tougher on illegal fishing in foreign waters by local fishing ships and their owners.
