Xuan Son fires Nam Dinh into ASEAN Club Championship semi-finals

VOV.VN - Striker Nguyen Xuan Son struck twice as Nam Dinh FC (Vietnam) cruised to a 3-0 victory over Lion City Sailors FC (Singapore) on January 29, securing an early place in the semi-finals of the 2026 ASEAN Club Championship.

The win gave Nam Dinh a perfect record of 12 points from four matches, while Xuan Son took his tournament tally to seven goals in just three appearances, making him the competition’s leading scorer so far.

At Thien Truong Stadium, the hosts faced a compact and deep-lying Lion City Sailors side that focused on defensive solidity in the opening stages. Nam Dinh patiently probed for openings and gradually increased the pressure.

The breakthrough came in the 35th minute when Caio Cesar cut in from the left and curled a fine shot past the visiting goalkeeper to give Nam Dinh a 1-0 lead before halftime.

The hosts dominated after the restart. In the 61st minute, a defensive error by the Singaporean side allowed Nguyen Tuan Anh to win possession and set up Xuan Son, who finished calmly to double the advantage.

Lion City Sailors pushed forward in search of a response but were kept at bay by a well-organised Nam Dinh defence. Deep into stoppage time, Xuan Son completed his brace by meeting Lam Ti Phong’s pass and slotting home to seal the 3-0 win.

With four wins from four matches, Nam Dinh now top the group, two points clear of Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (Malaysia), and cannot be overtaken by the remaining teams.
