Nam Dinh FC placed in ‘Group of Death’ at ASEAN Club Championship
VOV.VN - Nam Dinh FC will compete in Group B of the ASEAN Club Championship, which has been labeled the “Group of Death” due to the presence of regional heavyweights Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (Malaysia), Bangkok United FC (Thailand), and Lion City Sailors FC (Singapore).

The group stage draw took place virtually in Bangkok on July 4. Group B also includes Cambodia’s Svay Rieng FC and the winner of Playoff 2.
Among the toughest opponents for Nam Dinh FC will be Johor DT FC, who feature players with experience in top European leagues. In the previous season, the Malaysian club included notable names such as Jese Rodriguez, Enzo Lombardo, and Roque Mesa. Johor DT are expected to further bolster their squad ahead of their campaign in the upcoming AFC Champions League Elite.
Meanwhile, Hanoi Police FC have been drawn into Group A, where they will once again face Buriram United FC. The two sides met in both the group stage and final of last season’s tournament, with the Thai club ultimately claiming the title despite a hard-fought challenge from the Vietnamese side.
Group A also features BG Pathum United FC (Thailand), Selangor FC (Malaysia), Tampines Rovers FC (Singapore), and the winner of Playoff 1.
Notably, no Indonesian clubs will take part in the 2025–2026 ASEAN Club Championship, as they failed to meet the participation criteria set by the ASEAN Football Federation. Their absence means they will miss the opportunity to compete for substantial prize money from the regional tournament.
