VOV.VN - Head coach Mai Duc Chung has confirmed a new list of 22 players for the Vietnam women's national football team who will participate in the second qualification round for the 2024 Paris Olympics, with the matches to be held in Uzbekistan.
According to the squad announced on October 22, forward Ngoc Minh Chuyen of Thai Nguyen FC, midfielder Nguyen Thi Truc Huong of Vietnam Coal and Mineral FC, and defender Pham Thi Lan Anh of Hanoi FC will not join the team for the upcoming fixtures.
The team consists mostly of players who recently took part in the Asian Games in China, along with several other young talents.
The squad consists of several outstanding names, including defender Hoang Thi Loan, along with midfielders Thai Thi Thao, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung, and Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy.
In the latest squad is also midfielder Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha who scored a stunning goal that shocked the football community against the world’s second best team in the form of Germany during their friendly match on June 24.
Elsewhere, goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh who was among the best goalkeepers at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup made the list.
Striker Huynh Nhu, who is playing for the Portuguese top-division side Lank FC, will rejoin the team for the games.
Vietnam have been placed in Group C of the second qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will take place in Uzbekistan from October 23 to November 11.
The local female players will face the hosts Uzbekistan on October 26. They will then play against India and Japan on October 29 and November 1, respectively.
This is considered to be a challenging group for the Vietnamese women’s team, particularly as Japan trounced Vietnam 7-0 during the group stage of Asian Games in China recently.
